Recent reports suggest that Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is likely to play one match for Asia XI in Dhaka. Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday disclosed the tentative squads for Asia XI and World XI.
Kohli to play one game
Earlier the Indian cricket board had sent the name of Virat Kohli along with Mohammed Shami, Shikhar Dhawan, and Kuldeep Yadav to the BCB for two matches scheduled to be held in March end in Dhaka. On Tuesday when the BCB announced the squads, the president Nazmul Hassan said, “We have already received four names from India. We haven't signed contracts but Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Shikhar Dhawan and Mohammed Shami are supposed to come. They have said KL Rahul and Virat Kohli will play one game each, but that hasn't been finalised.”
India’s second Test is scheduled to end on March 4 and then India will fly back to home for their three-match ODI series against South Africa that will end of March 18. Then Kohli will be playing Indian Premier League 2020 starting from March 29. On the other hand, the two matches between Asia XI and World XI will be staged in Dhaka on March 21 and 22. So the hectic schedule can be an issue for the Indian skipper. Kohli is yet to confirm his availability for the game but expected to play at least one.
No Pakistan players
Pakistan players on the other hand will not feature as their PSL schedule is being clashed with the Dhaka games. Pakistan Super League final will be held on March 22 which is the date for the second fixture. A PCB spokesperson said, “The T20Is between World XI and Asia XI were scheduled from March 16-20, while the PSL 2020 is likely to end on March 22. Since dates of both the series couldn't be changed, we offered our regrets to the BCB, both verbally and in writing, which they understood and accepted.”
